superintendent spotlight

Dear Lewis-Palmer School District 38 Families and Community,

I hope this message finds you well as I write to share some important news with you. On November 29, the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board in Peoria, Arizona cast a unanimous vote to commence contract negotiations with me for their open Superintendent position.

While I am honored by this prospect, I want to share that this appointment is still contingent upon the successful conclusion of contract negotiations and a background check. Pending these items, the Peoria Governing Board anticipates making the official approval at a future meeting in the next few weeks, with a yet-to-be-determined official start date. I want each and every member of our community to know that I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and effective transition process for all involved and will be working very closely with the D38 Board of Education and our talented District Leadership Team to help facilitate a seamless transfer of responsibilities, with the best interests of our students, staff and families at the forefront.

In sharing this news with you all, I want to take a moment to reflect on and express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible experiences and relationships I have had the privilege of cultivating during my time here in D38. Lewis-Palmer School District 38 is a special place, and truly has made strides in the past several years, with many more great things on the horizon. D38 will always hold a place in my heart because of so many exceptional people doing incredible work on behalf of every student, every day. The success and achievements we have celebrated together and will undoubtedly continue well into the future are a daily testament to the strength and commitment of our staff, students, and families and vested community members.

The decision to explore this new opportunity was not made lightly, as I deeply value the relationships and collaborative efforts that make our district truly exceptional. As I look ahead to the opportunity to continue my educational leadership journey in Arizona, I will also carry forward the invaluable lessons and experiences gained in District 38, and will always hold fond memories of our time together.

Our work is not done, and I remain committed to working day in and day out on behalf of our students moving forward. We are committed to continuing to communicate with you through this process, and in the near future, we will share updates on the process and path forward for District 38. Thank you for your understanding, support and commitment to the success of our students. I look forward to the opportunity to personally express my gratitude to each of you as we navigate this transition.

Warm regards,
KC Somers, Ed.D
