Our region experienced very cold conditions this weekend, and forecasters predict the most extreme conditions of this arctic front will occur tonight into early Monday morning. A Severe Weather Advisory has been issued for El Paso County, and wind chills are expected to drop as low as 21 degrees below zero overnight. While conditions into the early morning hours will be bitter cold, forecasts do indicate that temperatures will rebound throughout the morning. As a result, School District 38 will be on a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR MONDAY, JAN. 26.
A 2-hour delay will allow additional time for temperatures to improve, helping ensure safer travel for our families and staff including students waiting at bus stops, and efficient operation of our buses. Before heading out in the morning, be sure your students are dressed appropriately for the extreme weather.
As a reminder, on a 2-hour delay, there is no morning preschool, and Leading Edge (our before and after school care program) follows the delay schedule.
Our weather team considers a variety of factors when making our decisions, including extreme wind chills. If you’d like to know more about what goes into making our weather calls, we invite you to review our Inclement Weather Decision Guide, which can be viewed any time on our website.
We thank you for your support and understanding. Stay safe, and bundle up as you make your way to our schools on Monday.

The winter storm forecasted for the entire Pikes Peak region made a significant impact overnight. Most areas in our district have already received about 5” of snow, with surrounding areas in the region where some staff travel from at 10” or more. Despite snow plows actively working, the ongoing rate of snow has made it difficult to keep roads clear and safe. Icy conditions exist, and roads are hazardous for travel. As a result, we are shifting our weather call, and D38 will CLOSE ON FRIDAY, JAN. 9.
As a reminder, during closures Leading Edge (before and after school care) does not operate, administrative offices are closed, and there are no field trips, after-school activities, or athletic activities unless approved by the superintendent.
We are grateful for your patience and understanding as we navigated the best weather decision for our district. While we will always prioritize the safety of students and staff, we also want to ensure our schools are open for learning as often as possible.
Stay warm and safe, and enjoy the snow day! Remember that with our new Snow Day Tracker, it’s easy to keep track of the snow days we use this winter season. We look forward to welcoming students and staff back to our campuses on Monday.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Northern El Paso County and will remain in effect into Friday. Our weather decision team is closely monitoring this storm, which is forecasted to bring widespread, heavy snow throughout the evening and tomorrow. As we wait to see if the storm materializes as predicted, D38 will operate on a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR FRIDAY, JAN. 9.
We understand a full closure might be possible. Our team will reconvene in the early morning hours to review current forecasts and road conditions, and adjust our weather call if needed. If we determine that a closure is needed, we will notify our families and staff no later than 6:30 a.m.
As a reminder, on 2-hour delay days, there is no morning preschool, and Leading Edge (our before and after school care program) follows the delay schedule.
We understand the impacts a delay or closure can have on family schedules, and we always strive to inform our families and staff of any weather impacts as early as possible. Our weather decision team works to balance the safety of students and staff with ensuring our schools are open for learning as much as possible. Keep an eye on D38 communication channels, and we will provide an update, if needed.

Winter weather conditions continue to linger across our district. Although local and county entities have been working since the early hours today to plow roads, there are still many side roads that remain icy and hazardous for travel. As a result, School District 38 will be on a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR THURSDAY, DEC. 4. A 2-hour delay will provide extra time for our staff, students, and families to travel to our schools, and for our facilities team members to prepare parking lots and walkways on our campuses.
As a reminder, on 2-hour delay days, there is no morning preschool and Leading Edge (our before and after school care program) follows the delay schedule.
Our weather decision team will convene again early Thursday morning to review updated reports from our transportation staff and facilities team members who will be assessing current conditions. If we determine that a closure is needed, we will notify all families and staff by 6:30 a.m.
We are grateful for your understanding and support with every weather decision we make. Our first priority is always the safety of students and staff, and we work to balance that with keeping our schools open for learning as much as possible.

The Tri-Lakes Community received a solid blast of winter overnight with measurable snowfall of more than 4” in many parts of our district, with possibly up to 5” more predicted between now and the afternoon according to forecasts. With colder temperatures than what we’ve experienced recently, snow is sticking to the roads. Our transportation team is reporting that many roads in our district haven’t been plowed yet, causing hazardous travel conditions. Additionally, our facilities team has shared it would be difficult to have our campuses prepared in time to open as scheduled. As a result, we are adjusting our weather decision, and D38 will be CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY, DEC. 3.
Remember that during closures Leading Edge (before and after school care) does not operate, administrative offices are closed, and there are no field trips, after-school activities, or athletic activities unless approved by the superintendent.
We appreciate your trust and understanding with every weather decision we make. Our first priority is always the safety of students and staff, and we work to balance that with ensuring our schools are open for learning opportunities as much as possible.
Enjoy your first snow day of the season! We’ll be recording it soon with our new Snow Day Tracker on the district website. Stay safe and warm, and we look forward to seeing everyone in our schools on Thursday.

Our region received its first taste of winter weather over the weekend, and it looks like more is coming our way. Local forecasts indicate snow beginning around 10:00 p.m. this evening with additional snowfall expected on Wednesday, and high temperatures only in the 20s. Based on this information, D38 will be on a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR WEDNESDAY, DEC. 3. The delay will provide extra time in the morning to reevaluate conditions and determine if we need to shift to a closure.
As a reminder, on 2-hour delay days, there is no morning preschool and Leading Edge (our before and after school care program) follows the delay schedule.
Our weather decision team will meet in the early morning hours to review updated forecasts and reports from our transportation staff who will be driving roads across the district. Our facilities team will also update us on conditions at our campuses. If we determine that a closure is needed, we will notify all families and staff by 6:30 a.m.
We know many of you are eagerly awaiting our first snow day of the season. Our new Snow Day Tracker on the district website will let you track our usage of snow days and delays this winter, and the page also outlines the factors we consider when making our weather decisions.

Our region experienced several inches of snow and freezing temperatures on Monday, leading to icy conditions on our roads this evening. As a result, School District 38 will be on a 2-HOUR DELAY for Tuesday, Dec. 10. A 2-hour delay will provide some extra time for ice on roads to improve, and for our facilities team members to prepare our parking lots and campus entryways.
As a reminder, on 2-hour delay days, there is no morning preschool and Leading Edge (our before and after school-care program) follows the delay schedule.
