An ambitious idea has come to fruition with the opening of District 38’s new Career & Innovation Center (CIC).

The CIC hosted students for the first time on Monday, Aug. 25. Having students onsite less than six months after the project began with a wall-breaking ceremony on March 31, 2025, was the result of a lot of hard work and dedication by D38 staff members and partners at Nunn Construction and Hollis & Miller Architects.

Located at 1200 Synthes Avenue in Monument, the CIC is now the home of expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE), with classes being offered currently, or in the future in Advanced Manufacturing, Computer Science, Engineering, Healthcare, and the Skilled Trades.

The CIC is also the current, but temporary home of D38 Transition Services, which serves students ages 18–21 and focuses on developing life and vocational skills to help students with special needs prepare for life after high school.

Approximately 200 students will be attending classes at the CIC this year.

D38 Director of Innovative Programs, Amy Sienkowski, who oversees the CIC, said students were excited to be in the new space Monday, and is excited herself for the opportunities that lie ahead for D38 students.

“The kids were very excited to be here and thought the building looked amazing,” Sienkowski said. “We know some amazing learning and growth will be happening here, and we know that we will be preparing kids for their next steps, be it college or entering the job market.”

D38 plans to host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the CIC in mid-September.
