Amy Robinson, science teacher, and gifted and talented facilitator at Lewis-Palmer Middle School, has been named Teacher of the Year by both the Lance P. Sijan Chapter and the State of Colorado Air & Space Forces Association (AFA). This honor recognizes her exceptional work in STEM education, especially her Mars simulation project in the “Opps and Challenges” class.
Each year, the AFA seeks nominations from across the Colorado Springs area, focusing on educators who engage students in science, technology, engineering and math. “Amy’s whole Mars project just blew us away,” said Dave Geuting of the Lance P. Sijan Chapter.
In Robinson’s project, students build and program robotic rovers to simulate a Mars mission—collecting and analyzing rock samples to determine if water once existed on the red planet. The project promotes real-world problem-solving, teamwork and innovation.
Robinson was recognized at both the May D38 Board of Education meeting and the AFA Colorado State Banquet for her outstanding contributions to STEM education. Her achievements at the chapter and state levels have earned her a spot in the national and international rounds of the competition, with results to be announced in August.
Robinson’s recognition is a reflection of D38's commitment to academic excellence. Her success highlights the innovation, dedication and passion our teachers bring to the classroom every day.
