Following a comprehensive search for the next leader of Prairie Winds Elementary School, an experienced educator emerged, leading to Brittnie Coveney being selected for the role.

Superintendent KC Somers introduced Coveney to the Board of Education on April 17, shortly after she was announced as the successful candidate.

“There is a special vibe that you can feel when you walk into Prairie Winds Elementary,” Coveney said, noting she was first drawn to the D38 opening due to the district’s strategic plan, and the PWES mission statement. “I can tell that PWES is a positive, friendly and engaging place where both students and adults feel like they belong.”

Coveney shared she’s uniquely excited to partake in the engaging learning opportunities in the building, including Try-it-Tuesday, the Garden Club and more.

Coveney most recently served as Assistant Principal of Mammoth Heights Elementary School in Douglas County School District, where she had been employed since 2018. She brings more than 20 years of experience in school settings, across multiple states, from teaching in the classroom to various leadership roles, including Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Elementary Teacher, Preschool Teacher and more.

“Mrs. Coveney is dedicated to connection and collaboration as a leader. As Mrs. Coveney interviewed among a field of very qualified candidates, certain items stood out to our search committee, including her desire to know every student, staff member and stakeholder by name, strength and need so that they feel seen, heard and valued,” said Dr. Somers.

Somers thanked the search committee, comprised of parents, staff members and district leaders, for helping to identify the next leader for Prairie Winds Elementary School.

Coveney will formally join the team in July as she prepares for the upcoming school year, but will also participate in several opportunities to meet and get to know families, including on May 1.
