Born in Germany, but raised in Monument, Lilly Font has called herself a D38 student since kindergarten. She started at Monument Academy and just graduated from Lewis-Palmer High School.
Now, Lilly’s ready to get back out there and see the world. And she plans on going pretty far.
After a summer semester abroad in Morocco, where Lilly learned Arabic, she developed a love for experiencing new cultures and plans to continue her international studies in college.
Lilly will attend Northeastern University in Boston this fall, and will jump straight into a study abroad program. Her first semester, she’ll be completing her studies in Berlin, and will be majoring in International Relations & International Business, with a minor in Arabic.
With an education like that, she will have a world of possibilities at her fingertips. For Lilly though, her true passion lies in helping people, and she’s really excited about what may come along during the journey.
“I’ve always had a passion for helping people,” Lilly said. “If I could find a humanitarian organization and incorporate my Arabic, I would love to do that. I want to do different things, and I’m really open to what the world throws at me,” she added.
Like many D38 students, Lilly has quite the resume.
Her list of achievements includes serving as President of WISE (Women Interested in Science and Engineering), hosting STEM labs for elementary students, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Varsity Tennis, and the list goes on.
Lilly credits a lot of her success to her education in D38, and the support and opportunities she was afforded.
“I got a lot of opportunities and had a lot of teachers who supported me here,” Lilly said. “There have been many avenues to challenge myself. I’ve taken A LOT of AP classes. Also, the teacher support here is so genuine,” she added.
The variety of classes available in D38 has also helped develop her interest in international studies.
“AP European History was one of my favorite classes, and it was one of my first introductions to this global perspective,” Lilly said. “The teacher, Mr. LeSage, is very passionate and wants to spark a curiosity in his students. So that class was very cool.”
Wherever her travels may take her, Lilly will be well prepared, thanks in part, to her strong foundation built in D38.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to grow up here, but now I’m really ready to launch and get a more global perspective,” Lilly said.
