Ben Fiore playing a red body guitar

As often as we see D38 students excel in academics and athletics, they shine equally as bright in the arts. Eighth grader Ben Fiore is definitely one of those students.

Originally from Massachusetts, Ben’s family moved to the Tri-Lakes area a few years ago, and he eventually arrived at Lewis-Palmer Middle School for seventh grade. In that short time, Ben has made an impact on his teachers, particularly his music teacher at LPMS, Lee Meyer. He sings baritone in the school choir and is a talented guitar player. Ben also plays alto saxophone, piano, and says he picks up music naturally. He describes it as “a gift.”

Even at his young age, Ben has already made a presence in the Tri-Lakes music scene. Last summer, he played multiple times at the Downtown Monument Art Hops. His music pages have a couple hundred followers on social media, and he releases original music on streaming platforms.

Ben’s love for music comes naturally, but his abilities come from a lot of effort, a lot of practice, and committing however much time it takes to figure something out.

His whole life is pretty much music, and he’s dedicated to it. He already has big dreams, but knows there’s a lot of work and life ahead. “I would love to pursue a life in music,” Ben said. “I always like to tell my friends that I think, at least at this point in my life, I would love to be the kind of rock star that we all know. But, I don’t think, right now, I’ve lived enough life and had enough experiences to be a true rock star.”

As far as what music Ben listens to, it’s a little bit of everything. He is big on “oldies” like Queen, Elton John, and Bon Jovi, and cites them as influences on his own music. In the modern era, he names Yungblud, a British artist, as one of his current favorites that has helped him realize and understand that music is what he wants to do.

When asked how to describe his own style, Ben hopes, like Queen, that he never has to conform to any one genre.

“Everything in my life really influences [my sound]. Music is my way of expressing it.”
