d38 awarded governor's distinguished improvement award and john irwin award

Lewis-Palmer School District 38 has once again been recognized by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) for excellence in the classroom across the district. 

For 2024, the CDE has named D38 as a district Accredited with Distinction, an achievement the district was also recognized for in 2023. 

According to the CDE, Colorado school districts are bestowed this honor when they earn 80 percent or more on the District Performance Framework. This framework measures student performance in academic achievement, academic growth, academic growth gaps, and post-secondary and workforce readiness.

The accolades don’t stop there. For 2024, D38 was also awarded the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award, as well as the John Irwin Award. The district also received both of these awards in 2023. 

The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award is given to schools or districts that demonstrate exceptional growth over time, according to the CDE. Recipients of this award received and “Exceeds Expectations” rating on the Academic Growth Indicator of the School Performance Framework, reflecting consistently high rates of student growth in English Language Arts, Math, and English Language Proficiency. 

According to the CDE, the John Irwin Award is given to schools or districts that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. These recipients received and “Exceeds Expectations” rating on the Academic Achievement Indicator of the School Performance Framework, reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English, Language Arts, and Science. 

As individual schools, Ray E. Kilmer Elementary and Palmer Ridge High School both received the John Irwin Award for 2024.
