Board of Education directors unanimously approved the latest edition of the D38 calendar, which can be found on the calendar section of the Lewis-Palmer School District 38 website.

Presented by Amber Whetstine, assistant superintendent, the calendar features 163 elementary student contact days, 167 middle school student contact days and 169 high school student contact days.

“Our calendar review process included several district leadership representatives. The committee was led by Alicia Welch, Prairie Winds Elementary School principal, and we brought together Learning Services representatives, as well as human resources and our enrollment office,” Whetstine said. “Alicia worked diligently with our school principals to gather feedback on behalf of their staff to get their input.”

Whetstine said the committee compared student contact days among comparable Colorado districts, among other factors, to generate the new student contact day totals.

“We do have significant days built into our calendar for staff development and training, as well as time for teachers to prepare, for things like report card preparation as well as parent-teacher conferences.”

According to Whetstine, the calendar updating process aligns with Priorities 2, 3 and 5 of the D38 Strategic Plan.
