Due to inclement weather, all after-school and evening activities for Friday, March 6 are canceled. This includes all athletic and extracurricular activities, and also impacts Leading Edge (our before and after school care program).
Buses will run as scheduled this afternoon, however, we realize that with the winter weather, some parents may choose to pick up their child early. Parents and guardians are encouraged to do what they feel is best for their family.
Early dismissal is not typical practice in D38 since we cannot ensure bus riders have a parent/guardian at home when they arrive. Additionally, many of our parents work in Colorado Springs and Denver, and may not always be available to pick up their student mid-day.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Weather calls are not always easy in Colorado, especially for our region.
Stay warm and safe on the roads this afternoon.

Our region experienced very cold conditions this weekend, and forecasters predict the most extreme conditions of this arctic front will occur tonight into early Monday morning. A Severe Weather Advisory has been issued for El Paso County, and wind chills are expected to drop as low as 21 degrees below zero overnight. While conditions into the early morning hours will be bitter cold, forecasts do indicate that temperatures will rebound throughout the morning. As a result, School District 38 will be on a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR MONDAY, JAN. 26.
A 2-hour delay will allow additional time for temperatures to improve, helping ensure safer travel for our families and staff including students waiting at bus stops, and efficient operation of our buses. Before heading out in the morning, be sure your students are dressed appropriately for the extreme weather.
As a reminder, on a 2-hour delay, there is no morning preschool, and Leading Edge (our before and after school care program) follows the delay schedule.
Our weather team considers a variety of factors when making our decisions, including extreme wind chills. If you’d like to know more about what goes into making our weather calls, we invite you to review our Inclement Weather Decision Guide, which can be viewed any time on our website.
We thank you for your support and understanding. Stay safe, and bundle up as you make your way to our schools on Monday.
