During their May 19 meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved Amber Whetstine as the next Superintendent of Lewis-Palmer School District 38. Whetstine has served as D38's Assistant Superintendent since 2021.
“During my time in D38, I have grown to deeply admire and care for this community—our values, our commitment to excellence, and most of all, our unwavering focus on students,” said Whetstine. “I am truly humbled and sincerely grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. Leading a district that prioritizes academic excellence, community partnerships, and the future of every student is a responsibility I accept with excitement and determination.”
Whetstine’s key accomplishments include leading the initiative to launch D38’s Career & Innovation Center, and playing an integral role in the evolution of the district’s strategic plan. She has contributed to the development of leaders as an instructor for the Principal Licensure Program at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and has presented at numerous professional conferences.
“Mrs. Whetstine brings a proven track record of successful leadership grounded in two decades of experience. She has consistently demonstrated that every student is her top priority,” said Tiffiney Upchurch, President of the Board of Education. “Her leadership style inspires staff and students, and raises community confidence. She is a steady, forward-thinking leader who brings both stability and momentum to the next chapter of student success in LPSD 38.”
Ron Schwarz, Treasurer of the Board, added, “Mrs. Whetstine is focused on student success and safety, competitive academic excellence, employee satisfaction, and community returns on investment. Our goal for her continued success and personal growth is to non-disruptively improve upon what is working well and to innovate beyond 21st century best practices.”
The process for selecting D38’s new superintendent involved input from staff, parents and community members, with a Selection Advisory Committee representing all stakeholder groups during interviews with the finalists. Whetstine’s contract will officially begin July 1.
