Track and Field is a unique sport; each athlete will be able to participate in every meet. However, due to the large numbers of participants, they may not always compete in their chosen event. Runoffs and challenges will be held for all the events except the mile and half-mile (these are open events and can have as many participants as want). Depending on which meet we are attending, we may be limited to the number of runners (sprints) and field event participants (2 runners per sprint and 3 per field event). Therefore, only the top two or three will be able to participate in each event for that meet.
The expectation is each athlete will attend all practices and meets. We understand (at times) there may be a conflict that will prevent him/her from attending. Please be courteous – and send us a note or email to kolgren1@lewispalmer.org regarding your child’s absence.
We are expecting a large number of athletes to participate in track this year and keeping track of your child at away meets is critical; consequently, our transportation policy is strict. Each student will ride the bus to the meet. Only you can sign YOUR child out and take them home. All sign-outs must consist of 2 steps: 1) Locate a coach and check-out with them, 2) Sign the official sign-out sheet, which is located at the LPMS camp (unless prior arrangements are made – no parent is allowed to take someone else’s child home – email or note).
Athletes are expected to wear the shorts and Lewis-Palmer Athletics t-shirts to all meets. We would also like them to bring their sweats with them for every meet, as weather changes quickly in Colorado. Many seventh and eighth graders have the Lewis-Palmer Athletics (track) t-shirts and shorts from Track (last year) or Cross Country (this year).
New students to the school and any student without a t-shirt or shorts will need to purchase one. These t-shirts may be used for cross country, track, and intramurals both in 7th and 8th grade.
Please make a check out to LPMS and turn it into the main office. If you are unable to afford a t-shirt and shorts at this time, please don’t hesitate to email me (kolgren@lewispalmer.org). We do have scholarship funds to help out with this.
