Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a district-wide knowledge bowl. To make the team, students are required to read 40 books which are listed on The Battle of the Books list can be found below under Resources, as well as on the Pikes Peak Library site. During practices, teachers ask students questions about the books from the aforementioned list. Practices conclude in April when individual schools in the Lewis-Palmer district compete against each other and then the following week, teams compete against upwards of 80 more teams in the Pikes Peak Region. Our regional battle is held at Colorado College in late April. Medals and certificates are awarded to the top teams.

We hope to see lots of 5th graders trying out for our annual "Battle," a fun way to read lots of amazing books and maybe even win a trophy for our school. Permission slips to try out are sent home to all fifth graders - if they are interested, their parents sign the form. Once the tryouts are over and teams are put together, another permission slip goes home to the "Battle kids" with dates of practices/norms/etc. Once on the team, practices are generally twice a week.
