K-Kids (Student Council)

Attention 4th, 5th and 6th grade Prairie Winds Hawks! Do you want to be in a club that gets you involved with your school and community and helps you become a great classroom leader? Then you should join K-Kids!

K-Kids at Prairie Winds is actually a shortened name for our student council and we call it K-Kids/Student Council. K-Kids is a student-led service organization of elementary school students. K-Kids is open to 4-6 grade students, and each member becomes a club representative who keeps their classmates informed on all of the fun events that are coming up at PWES.

** 6th grade is a special year because they will have a chance to become an officer and help run the exciting meetings and committees. More information will come home with the 6th grade.

**Ms. Reinecke, from the local Kiwanis Club of Monument Hill serves as the K-Kids Club sponsor.  Michelle Weaver and Mary Montero will act as the K-Kids faculty advisors and will be in attendance at all K-Kids Club meetings.

Meetings with our 4-6 grade Representatives will occur twice a month every other Tuesday from 8:05-8:45 a.m. Listen to announcements. Please be on time.

Each meeting we will break into three committees: Committee members rotate periodically during the year, as to provide everyone with a well-rounded experience while in K-Kids/Student Council.

Hawk Committee: The Hawk Committee is responsible for showing appreciation to the staff at PWES. They work to ensure that each staff member knows that they are appreciated by their students.

Compassion Committee: The Compassion Committee is responsible for planning both school wide and Student Council specific philanthropic opportunities and community events throughout the year. They will also make these opportunities available to the student population and the K-Kids. This also includes heading up PWES’s outreach efforts to the greater Monument, El Paso County, and Colorado communities.

Spirit Committee: The Spirit Committee is in charge of activities that increase school spirit, as well as producing posters and publicity for K-Kids/Student Council programs and events. They work to plan spirit activities such as dress up days and friendly grade-level/house competitions.

The objectives of K-Kids are:

  • to provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community;

  • to develop leadership potential;

  • to foster development of a strong moral character; and

  • to encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation.

Reminder: We will have all meetings every other Tuesday of each month at 8:05 a.m. Tell your friends to join us; community service is awesome!
