Val DeLello receiving her teacher of the year award

The Air and Space Force Association believes STEAM teachers shape the future of the nation. As a result, they honor three teachers each year, and in 2022, named Val DeLello as one of their Teachers of the Year.

“The very best educators transform learning into a boundless adventure and prepare their classes to explore new frontiers of technology for the good of us all,” a message from the AFA reads. “Along with grants and scholarships, the Air & Space Forces Association believes that recognizing those who educate America’s youth is an important aspect of what AFA is all about.”

DeLello, a science teacher at Bear Creek Elementary School, is the mastermind behind an inclusive program that earned praise from her peers and her school’s leadership.

“Val’s ability to reach and touch kids’ lives in a meaningful way extends well beyond the classroom,” said Tiffani Lind, dean of students at BCES. “While students are in their science core, there is a consistent buzz of positive energy. They are eager to follow directions and think like a scientist.”

DeLello also received recognition for her work, along with her team of colleagues, on a Science Fair Day and STEAM Night, during which students had the ability to engage hands-on in science inquiry.
