What Services are Available? How are They Provided?
Once a student has been determined to be eligible for services through a staffing process, there are many types of special education services available. The goal is to have each student in the environment which is most appropriate, while still meeting his/her identified needs. Integration of students with disabilities into the mainstream of regular education is encouraged.
Preschool Services are designed to provide a developmentally appropriate program which integrates children ages 3 through 5 who have a variety of disabilities, ranging from mild to severe, and children with no special needs. Children who have no special needs pay a tuition to be in the program.
Resource Services are designed for those students who have mild to moderate educational needs. Services may include consultation or teaming of special and regular teachers or direct, individualized or small group instruction in the resource or regular classroom. A continuum of services is available at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Pre-vocational Services are designed for students at the middle and high school level who have moderate educational needs. The goal is to prepare students with lifetime skills and the skills necessary for transition to the high school and the world of work.
Work Experience and Study Services are designed for high school level students with moderate educational needs. Students generally move from middle school pre-vocational services to the work experience and study services. The goal is to prepare students to enter the world of work and for community living.
The Area Vocational Program is designed to meet the career occupational training needs of high school students. Both students with disabilities and typical peers are eligible for this program. Training areas may change from time to time, depending on student needs and future job markets.
Centralized Services are provided for students who are seriously emotionally disturbed, multiple disabled, physically disabled, and/or have moderate, severe, or profound cognitive needs. Students are integrated into age appropriate regular classrooms in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Hearing Impaired Services are available for those students with hearing impairments. These services are provided by itinerant staff.
Visually Impaired Services are available in the regular classroom to students with visual impairments. Orientation and mobility instruction are provided as needed by itinerant staff.
