Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Bear Creek Elementary School!
The district theme for this year is "On a Great Path". For those families who are returning, welcome back. And to those of you who are new to our school, we are glad you are joining the Bear Creek family. Although 900 students may conjure up the thoughts of a large elementary, the staff, families, and building configuration do a great job keeping our school a tight knit community.
There are many opportunities for you to become actively involved in our school and district communities. Please consider being a volunteer within the classroom/school or being an active member of our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), BAAC (Building Accountability Advisory Committee), DAAC (District Accountability Advisory Committee) or K-Kids (a collaborative club endeavor with the Monument Kiwanis). Our PTO is low stress and will be offering many "workshop" type informative opportunities prior to our every other month meetings. Your support and involvement are extremely appreciated and most welcomed.
We believe in educating the whole child and building on their strengths. We offer our students art, music, library, technology, counseling, and physical education opportunities. Our whole child goal is to improve the participation rates in before/after school enrichment activities. We hope your child will find a class or club that matches their interest. Please be sure to check out our Altitude Framework on our website as it will help us to think about our purpose, our priorities, and our planning using various viewpoints.
We have several procedures and programs in place to help us make children as successful as possible. Some of these include: preschool and pre-kindergarten, MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), Title I Reading/Math teachers, Gifted & Talented Education, Character Counts, Battle of the Books, on-site counselor, on-site before and after child care, to name just a few.
I am a child-centered educator. I would like students and parents to know that I value students as the main ingredient in a successful educational process. It takes teamwork and communication to accomplish great feats and I look forward to working with the parents and community to help Bear Creek be the best learning environment that it can be for our students.
In November, the district will be asking the voters to consider financing a new elementary school on the Bear Creek property and converting our school back to a middle school. It will be very important that everyone stays as informed as possible. We use various ways to communicate: We will be sending home a news page every other week via e-mail using either Infinite Campus or Parent Link. Teachers send home newsletters. Our school website has announcements/calendar sections and you will want to watch the district/school website for emergency information, if the need should arise. The district/schools also push information through Peach Jar.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
Looking forward to our journey down the path together,
