Mrs. Susan Travers
School Social Worker
I feel so fortunate to be part of the professional and caring staff at Bear Creek Elementary. While born and raised outside of Boston, Massachusetts my husband and I moved to Colorado in 1980 and never looked back! What a treat to find that chips don't get soggy, wet clothes don't get musty smelling and I could get rid of all my down jackets! I have three awesome children who are Colorado natives (and Bronco's,not Patriots, fans!!). We live on a lake in Denver and can waterski out our back door.
I received my Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Denver in 1984, worked in residential adolescent treatment centers and an in-patient addiction recovery program until finally landing in the public schools in 1991. I have chosen to remain at the elementary level because I believe that early intervention is the key to success.
I have always seen myself as a positive, glass is half full, person and my philosophy has evolved over the years, as I have moved from idealism to realism. Presently, I live by the following motto (adopted from the movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel):
"Everything is going to be OK in the end. And if everything is not OK.....then it's not the end"
I hope to have the opportunity to cross paths with many community members at some point in my tenure at BCES and invite anyone to come by my office or call me (719-797-1657) if you have any social or emotional concerns you feel may be impacting your child at school.
