Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Melissa Nunez
I am blessed to be in my 9th year as an Instructional Para. I am lucky enough to assist the students and teachers from kindergarten to 6th grade. I support students at all learning levels primarily with math, writing, reading, and handwriting. I take a special pride in my work, and being able to connect with each individual student. I enjoy making the learning process a fun and educational experience for all. I am a firm believer in Kilmer's belief in 'Educating The Whole Child'. My primary position is being in a classroom, buy most of you will recognize me as the morning Crosswalk Guard.
My experience in working with children primarily began as a parent. I was my son's cub scout leader for 5 years, my daughter's girl scout leader for 4 years, taught my daughter's Sunday school class from 1st to 6th grade, and substituted for SPED departments for every school in our district over a 2 year span. Before starting my journey with Kilmer my professional background was in Accounting and Human Resources, but it was the interaction with children that brought me to love my position her at Kilmer. I truly believe I have found my calling.
My 'family membership' with Kilmer began 17 years ago. My husband and I made a choice to move our family into the LPSD area just in time for our son to begin kindergarten at Kilmer. I've been part of the Kilmer family ever since. My son and daughter are now in college. I have lived in Colorado my whole life. My favorite 'outside of school activity' is spending time with my family. We enjoy listening to music, camping, fishing, hunting, baseball, softball, boating...really anything outside. When alone, I enjoy reading, listening to music, taking and looking at family photos and watching classical musicals (my daughter enjoys them too). My students may notice I have a special interest in owls.
I'm looking forward to another wonderful year at Kilmer!
