RKES Distance Learning Plan

  • Kindergarten

    • Google classroom is setup, sight word songs, cvc songs, and counting songs uploaded and scheduled.
    • Use of Google Classroom for daily communication, daily lessons, etc   
    • Phonics = Utilize RGR Online Free Tile play and daily spelling words.
    • Reading=Utilize Scholastic Learn at Home Daily lessons with stories, non fiction books, games and activities to incorporate
    • Writing=complete a writing activity about the reading assignment, writing sentences using sight words 
    • Math=enrichment activities from EDM curriculum and a daily link to math game using abcya!
    • Science and Social Studies=Scholastic News.

      Recommended hours students are engaged in learning: 1.5 hours per day
      + 30 minutes for a Specials Activity.

    First Grade

    • Google Classroom for programs, info, lessons, etc.
    • Reading/Phonics = Moby Max (practice, assign, test, track, communicate) + enrichment
    • Math = MobyMax (practice, assign, test, track, communicate) + enrichment
    • Writing = to be completed in writing journals
    • Social Studies = Scholastic, Epic Books, and other resources
    • Science = Scholastic, Epic Books, and other resources
    • Writing journal sent home
    • Reading packet sent home

     Second Grade

    • Team will be coordinating assignments--for example, 30 min of Reading Plus daily

      Math
    • Moby Max Facts - 5 minutes practice on multiplication and/or division
    • Math Lesson - one assignment every day (either Google Classroom or EDM online)
    • RISE Problem - one word problem every other day (via Google Classroom)

      Reading
    • Reading Plus - one story and one vocabulary lesson a day
    • Reading Passage - one assignment every day (SF, Novel, or Google Classroom Selection)
    • RACE Response - one assignment every day (via Google Classroom)

      Writing and Language Arts
    • TypingAgent or Typing.com - 5 minutes a dayMoby Max Language - one lesson a day
    • Essay Writing - one published piece every other week comparing/contrasting two paired selections using
      the 5 step writing process (via Google Classroom)
    • Narrative Writing - one published every other week changing the character, problem, or setting to an
      assigned narrative using the 5 step writing process (via Google Classroom)

      Science
    • Weather Log - weekly assignment to predict & verify daily weather (via Google Classroom)
    • Video - one assignment every other day (Discovery Ed, Tig Tag, or Carolina Science) 
    • RACE Response - one assignment every other day in response to video (via Google Classroom)

      Social Studies
    • Reading Passage or Video - one assignment every other day (TCI or Encyclopedia Britannica)
    • RACE Response - one assignment every other day in response to reading or video (via Google Classroom)

    • Fourth Grade 

      Math
      Will update EDM planner and do assignments in EDM  
      Khan Academy and EDM videos can be utilized to reiterate instruction as well
      Students that need math fact practice will be assigned minutes on MobyMax using the fact blaster category for 10 minutes
      Students may utilize EM games online for reiterating current and past content as well

      Writing
      Will continue narrative writing assignments in Google Classroom with teacher response weeklyStudents will be responding to reading and writing expository pieces using Science and Social Studies curriculum using Google Classroom
      Students will write a weekly letter via google classroom updating the class on their life and activities they are doing at home to share games, activities to keep them occupied, books to read, unfortunately, tv/movies shows

      Reading
      Grothe-Using Google Classroom to post Audible of the rest of Mr. Popper’s Penguins and create discussion questions related to the book.
      Students may login to Reading Plus and complete See Readers and vocabulary, and login to Readworks for reading comprehension available through Google Classroom
      Reading Plus has tutorials available that I have been showing my kids, I will see if we can assign them in GCStudents will be reading and responding to reading of Science and Social Studies curriculum using Google Classroom
      Upload Phonics Boost final assignments to students.
      They will complete a Google form upon completion of lessons.

      Science
      Science book to continue reading Chapter 3 along with possible use of Pearson online resources.
      Epic Books within Google Classroom that are specific to SS or Science Moby Max.

      Social Studies
      Use textbook for social studies and Google Classroom to have comprehension questions, discussion questions, and quizzes
      Assign videos from RockyMountain PBS and History Colorado 

      Recommended hours students are engaged in learning: 2 hrs. per day
      + 30 minutes for a Specials Activity.

    Fifth Grade

    • Use of Google Classroom for reading and writing. Audio Books with comprehension questions
      will be uploaded as well.
    • Reading assignments from NewsEla, and Readworks. Emails and google classroom will be utilized
      to post information about assignments from these sites, and timelines for completion. 
    • Writing prompts and texts will be uploaded into google classroom, students have their writing spirals
      to complete plans and rough drafts. Students can publish in google docs and share documents with their teachers. 
    • Mobymax will be used for practice with fractions, mixed numbers, converting between decimals and fractions.
      We will also practice conversions using standard and metric units. We will apply RISE to understand,explain
      and solve word problems. 
    • We will be accessing EDM from the digital platform for math practice and studylink work.
    • Use of Mobymax science to reinforce and review ecosystems. We will be introducing renewable and nonrenewable energy.
      Understanding how water is used, conserved and made safe to drink through various processes.
    • We will access Discovery Education for supplemental videos and additional student work.
    • We will access Google Classroom to apply science concepts through writing which will be shared by the student to Mrs. Colt.

      + a 30 minute Specials Activity. 


    Sixth Grade 

    • Math
      Students have math books for Math work…  Also, Khan Academy will be utilized for video lesson descriptions.
      Warm up problems will be assigned via google classroom, as well as logic exercises.  
      RISE problems will be given on occasion.
      Possible area/perimeter cost-analysis project determining flooring costs for rooms at home

    • Social Studies
      For SS, students will access CNN10 daily, with quick questions to answer after each session. 
      Daily work will be assigned via the digital TCI platform
      Videos from Discovery Ed may be viewed and tasks posted to google classroom to complete.

    • Science
      Students have both their physical science workbook and the online version for access.  Assignments will be given through Google classroom
      Students will watch pertinent science videos as assigned on Discovery Ed
      Part of the science plan over this time period will be some additional learning around infectious diseases

    • Language Arts
      Students will complete Reading Plus with Vocabulary daily.
      Use of Google Classroom is ready for reading and writing.  
      Reading assignments will also come from Newsela, Readworks, and the Literature Book.
      Emails and google classroom will be utilized to post information about assignments from these sites
      and timelines for completion.
