Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Tempest Campbell
Welcome to 8th grade math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra! I am excited to start my second year as a math teacher at Lewis-Palmer Middle School. I graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education. While at UCCS I worked with the UTeach Program for Secondary Education which emphasises inquiry and project based instruction. I have experience tutoring math from elementary to college level students. I worked as a Math Interventionist for grades 6-8 at Carmel and Panorama Middle School at Harrison District 2.
During the year, we will learn how to work in groups, make mistakes (and corrections), create math goals, and how to learn math using available resources. I want students to learn how to help themselves if they do not understand a topic in math. Math is not an individual effort, it is a group effort and needs to be discussed. As Einstein said, “Education is not the learning of facts, it’s rather the training of the mind to think.” Math is not about memorizing facts (though facts are essential to discussing ideas), but about visualization and ideas.
I am technically a Colorado Native because I was born in Colorado, but resided in Alaska and Illinois for most of my life. I am a foodie, love art and culture, and exploring new and interesting places.
