Welcome to another great school year; I am very excited to be your Art Specialist this year!
Art has always been a central force in my life. I was raised in Missouri on ten acres complete with three pottery wheels, a painting studio, fibers work shop and as much nature to inspire a lifetime of art work. Recently, my father and I even built a Raku Kiln on the property.
I studied art in college where I graduated with my Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts with significant work in Global Studies as well as Psychology. I went on to pursue a Masters of Arts in Education receiving my teaching certification. Elementary Art has been my career since 2010.
In my classroom you can expect to see children learning how innovate, transfer knowledge, and reflect on their experiences. Students will get to try new ideas out, think their choices through, and exercise their curiosity during an assignment. My purpose is not to build famous painters (although a few might emerge) the art classroom is designed to mold the future generation of thinkers, doers, builders, collaborators, and well-rounded citizens that are equipped to face the world’s and individual problems in a diplomatic, thoughtful, and artful way. Every day we do this through art by learning how to produce new and thoughtful ideas, how to talk to others about those ideas, and how to persevere in the way of difficulty.
When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young children. You can find us hiking, camping, traveling, and getting messy in our backyard. I’ve been known to be at all the free concerts and art events that the Monument and Colorado Springs area has to offer and I also teach art classes at Who Gives a Scrap recycle and reuse store in Old Colorado City.
