Degrees and Certifications:
Mt. Holyoke College, BA Keller Graduate School, MBA
Hello! My name is Betsy Dierlam and I am so thrilled to be teaching Art at Bear Creek Elementary School! It is an honor for me to teach your children art. Art can bring many good things into your child’s life; including training the eye to see what an object really looks like and draw these items, expanding creativity, and learning about the beauty around us that is represented in art. Art can also be fun. My plan is to do all kinds of art with students including drawing, painting, and clay projects.
Our family came to the Monument, Colorado from Bossier City in the northwestern part of Louisiana in 2017. My husband retired from the USAF there and we decided that we wanted to permanently settle in Monument. We have three children, who are in elementary, middle, and high school.
I grew up in the Air Force, served in the Air Force, and later married my husband who was in the Air Force. This is my 27th move and I plan for it to be my last move for a long time! I have an undergraduate degree in economics from Mt Holyoke College where I also did an emphasis in art history and then later earned an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management.
I didn’t discover my love for creating art until we moved to Bossier City, Louisiana in 2010. When my husband deployed for a year, I decided to pursue a dream to learn to paint in watercolor. I began taking classes and studying art books and discovered a deep love for drawing, painting portraits and almost anything in watercolors. I am living proof that you don’t have to be “artistic” or “born just knowing” to learn to draw and paint. It is a learned skill, much like most things, and can add joy to your life at any age. I hope to share my love and enthusiasm for art with your child.
I know everyone is busy, but if you are interested in assisting during art class time, I would love the extra pair of hands. No artistic ability is required! It is a great opportunity to spend time with your child, get to know his/her classmates, and see what everyone is learning. Please email me or contact me if you would like to volunteer.
