Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Nora Swenink

My name is Nora Swenink and I teach 8th grade math on the Silver Team. I grew up in southwest Wisconsin in a small farming community called Viroqua. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a BS in Mathematics, my husband and I moved to Germany where my husband served in the US Air Force. Over the years we have lived in several places including Wisconsin, Louisiana, Iowa, Indiana, and now Colorado. While living in Indiana, I earned my teaching certification from Anderson University. I taught for 10 years at Westfield Middle School in Westfield, Indiana before moving to Colorado.

I love teaching at the middle school level. This is a time when students begin to transition from concrete to abstract thinking. Each student develops abstract thought at different times.  For some the transition is easy; for others it is a challenge. I really enjoy this particular dynamic of the middle school student as it is rewarding to see the “light bulb moment” when your student says, “I think I’ve got it!”

I love teaching math because the properties that govern numbers make it a universal language. One of the most important mathematical threads in my opinion is number sense. Number sense allows students to be able to estimate, use proportional thinking, compare data, judge the appropriateness of an answer, think logically, and be precise.

I am so pleased to be part of the Lewis-Palmer School District, and I look forward to great days ahead.
