Welcome to 8 Red Science Remote Learning!!!

This will be a new experience for all of us.

All assignments for science will be posted on the 8 Red Science Calendar.  I decided to keep this format since all of you have previously used it in class.  It is just a small way that this time can feel somewhat normal.

Be patient and email me if you have any difficulty finding any of the assignments.  Recognize that learning to use the online textbook may be challenging. Make sure you utilize both the glossary and index in both books.

For those of you that were absent on Friday, March 13 and missed the test, I will be determining how to have you access this at home in the coming days.

We MISS you all.

Forces, Newton's Laws, atmosphere, energy, states of matter, waves and weather!!  8th grade science encompasses all of this and more.  I am excited to be starting my fourth year at Lewis-Palmer Middle School and my first year of teaching science after teaching math for three years.  I attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where I earned a BS in Applied Mathematics with special honors along with a minor in Physics and a MS in Forensic Science with an emphasis on Toxicology. I have been teaching math and science since 1998 and enjoy being in the classroom and meeting new students every year.

From our earliest childhood, we love to ask "why."  We have an innate curiosity about the world around us.  I hope to foster your student's inquisitiveness and encourage them to keep asking questions.  Science provides us with the skills we need to find the answers to that which puzzles and inspires us.  It teaches us how to think independently, solve problems and make informed decisions.  It doesn't just give us the answers but provides us with the tools needed to evaluate solutions to even more challenging and complex questions as we get older.   I believe all students are capable of learning science at a high level with the appropriate help and a lot of determination, perseverance and will power to keep trying.  According to Neil deGrasse Tyson "Science literacy is the artery through which the solutions of tomorrow's problems flow."  I will be your child's biggest supporter encouraging and challenging them to keep asking questions and hypothesizing answers.  I am looking forward to an amazing year facilitating your child's growth in science.
