Mrs. Maria Brown
Welcome to kindergarten and Kilmer Elementary School! Kindergarten is a year of significant growth developmentally, academically and socially. I am honored to part of your child’s life during this time.
I have been teaching at Kilmer Elementary since 2015 and feel privileged to be part of this exceptional learning community.
I have a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and an Elementary Education Degree from Regis University. I am a Black Forest native and LP alumni In my spare time I enjoy equestrian events, hiking, camping, reading, and playing board games with my family. We have a small farm of horses, chickens, cats and our wonderful black lab, Frannie.
I am looking forward to a partnership with parents for a successful and wonderful year of kindergarten.
I have five classroom expectations to allow student learning in a positive environment:
1. Looking eyes and listening ears on the speaker
2. Say the magic words: please, thank you and I'm sorry
3. Always be honest
4. Be a caring friend
5. Always try your best
Welcome to kindergarten! Kindergarten is one of the most vital experiences in a child's life. It creates a feeling of self-confidence and brings opportunities for learning that have a lifelong effect on a child's later success. By providing a positive atmosphere where a child can work and play and by offering developmentally appropriate activities, we will initiate the development of responsible and independent learners who can function successfully in school and society.
Kindergarten Curriculum: The emphasis of kindergarten is to provide a learning experience for the whole child. Different learning activities will be used that engage the student. There will be large group, small group and individual instruction throughout the year.
