K-6 Music

  • The Prairie Winds Elementary Music K-6 Program curriculum is based on the 4 Colorado Music Standards: Expression of Music, Creation of Music, Theory of Music, and Aesthetic Valuation of Music.  When combined with our responsive classroom practices, we have a blast!  I believe music at the elementary level should allow students to "experience" the joy music can have in their lives!  We work with instruments (drums, keyboards, xylophones, hand instruments, etc.), sing, dance, study composers and genres, and much more!  Our school is home to the Prairie Winds Hawk Choir, as well as the Hawk Guitar Program!

Mr. Michael Norris

Music Teacher

I am extremely happy to be a part of the Prairie Winds community as our school's music teacher. I served as a music teacher for 10 years before moving into school administration. I was fortunate to fill the role of assistant principal for two years and principal for nine years before returning to the classroom last year. This is my second year at Prairie Winds.

I received my Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Colorado State University. I also attended UCCS to complete requirements for my Principal's license. I have experience teaching elementary music, junior high/middle school band and orchestra, and high school band.

I thoroughly enjoy elementary students, and believe that the cornerstone of all successful classrooms is mutual respect and strong teacher/student relationships.

When I am not at school, I enjoy time with my wife and two sons. We enjoy being outdoors, spending time with our dogs, and traveling.
