I am an educator who felt called to my profession at a young age. I wanted to have an altruistic purpose to my life - beyond family - and I saw I could do this by working with children as a teacher. Education gave me choices and I want to provide the same opportunity for our students at Palmer Lake.
I believe that when we invest in our children, we have the power to change the future. Our world is rapidly changing and as an educator I need to be willing to embrace what I ask kids to do everyday: to be a risk-taker, problem-solver, creative and critical thinker as well as be a compassionate human being who has the desire to give back to their world.
The 2019-2020 school year will mark the beginning thirty years in education. It has gone by in nearly a blink-of-an-eye! I was primarily a math and science teacher in the upper elementary grades in the early years of my teaching career. Of the thirteen years I was in a classroom, ten of those years were spent as a gifted cluster teacher. My first adventure out of the classroom was to support the alignment of our K-12 math curriculum. After working in this position for a year, I remained at the district level as a gifted program coordinator as well as a science and social studies coordinator. Missing daily contact with kids, I returned to the building level as a 7th Grade assistant principal. In 2006, I had the privilege of becoming an elementary principal and have stayed in this role at three different schools for eleven years, with Palmer Lake being the third school.
I enjoy a quiet and uneventful life outside of my daily responsibilities at Palmer Lake Elementary. My husband and I enjoy our empty nest, but love life most when we are together with our two grown children, their spouses, and our four grandchildren.
