Visual art, in all forms, provides students with an opportunity to discover their passion. The arts are an important part of any academic education. Art education should not only teach students visual art concepts and skills, but it should also revolve around promoting creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and respect for oneself and one’s peers. I try and personalize my interactions with each student emphasizing the personal histories and culture that he or she brings to the classroom, and attempt to incorporate that into his or her artwork. I want students to walk away with a new understanding and appreciation for art, culture, and their own talents and passions. Art has been a significant part of my life since my own time in high school, and I plan on practicing and encouraging art from the remainder of my life.
I received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Visual and Performing Art, and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Women’s and Ethnic Studies at the UCCS in 2012. In 2014, I completed my Master's of Arts in Teaching K-12 Art Education through Colorado College.
