Welcome to the world of English Learners (ELs) at Lewis-Palmer Elementary and Prairie Winds Elementary! Hello, I am the English Learner Teacher at LPES and PWES. I work with the wonderful students whose families have one or more languages other than English in their background. I have lived in Colorado since 1991 and in the Monument area since 1999, and I have two sons who are in college. I have a degree in English and a degree in Linguistically Diverse Education for grades K-12. I enjoy working with students in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English.
Our goals are not only to help students learn the English language but also to promote understanding among diverse languages and cultures. To further this goal, the Lewis-Palmer School District EL Program hosts a yearly International Dinner to celebrate and honor our EL families. All district staff and EL families and friends are invited to this dinner. More specific information will come home with your students as the date gets closer.
It is my privilege to have the opportunity to have these children with such diverse backgrounds in my life, to learn more about their lives and experiences and to help them grow in their knowledge of the English language.
Please check the LPSD website English Learners' page for upcoming events and information. Go to the Lewis-Palmer School District webpage at www.lewispalmer.org and click on the "Departments" tab at the top of the page. Choose "English Learners" to find the English Learners' page. Click on the list to the right of the page to find information about our program including newsletters.
I can be reached by the phone number or email address listed above. I look forward to a great school year!
