Mr. Peter Wise
My educational emphases can be summarized by these three main points:
1) The love of learning
2) The joy of working with young people
3) The love of seeing the light come on (making information accessible and memorable)
I have taught math in the classroom for over 16 years, and have published 8 math workbooks for grades 3-9. Math clubs are an exciting and rewarding endeavor for me. I have had as many as four math clubs at a time with over 73 students. I lead teacher trainings and have presented at the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented Conference.
My own two children competed successfully in state and national math competitions.
In chess, I am an expert in the U.S. Chess Federation, and have coached hundreds of students in before- and after-school chess clubs. Over the past three years our PWES chess teams have placed 2nd and 3rd in Colorado.
My interests lie in math, history, chess, music, hiking, and photography. I love Colorado because of the abundance of hiking trails and natural beauty. I enjoy working with students, motivating them, cheering them on, and seeing the light come on. My wife is a teacher with the district. My son and daughter both enjoy math and chess. I have two cats, Kit Kat and Snickers.
