Choice Enrollment

Choice Enrollment FAQs

  • 1. We live in Academy District 20 and my 3rd grader and 6th grader are choice enrolled into Lewis-Palmer School District. Do I have to complete a choice enrollment application for both students?

You will be notified of continued enrollment for your 3rd grader going into 4th grade, but you will need to submit an application for your 6th grader to attend Lewis-Palmer Middle School for 7th grade in the fall.

  • 2. My child is choice enrolled in another elementary school in District 38, but because of transportation issues, I now want him to return to his neighborhood school starting next school year. What do I need to do?

Since choice enrollment changes your child's assigned school, please complete a new choice enrollment application to make your neighborhood school his assigned school.

  • 3. If I submit a Choice Enrollment Application and change my mind, what happens?

If you change your mind during the choice enrollment window, you may call the district registrar at 719-488-4700 and request the application be withdrawn. If it is after that time, you will need to submit an Appeal application.

  • 4. I live in the district and want my child to attend Monument Academy, but I'm told she is on a waiting list. What should I do?

You may enroll her in her neighborhood school after August 15, if desired. We ask you to wait until then since seats typically open up throughout the summer and during the first few days of the school year. This helps the district make more accurate staffing decisions and avoids unnecessary paperwork for families.

If your child is already enrolled in a District 38 school, your child can maintain her enrollment in the school she was attending until a seat becomes available. If a seat opens after classes begin, an Appeal application must be submitted and approved. Depending on the timing, you may not be eligible for a refund of tuition and fees.

  • 5. I want my child to attend a preschool that is not our neighborhood school. Is that possible?

Choice Enrollment only applies to kindergarten and older. As long as you reside in the boundaries of Lewis-Palmer School District, you may enroll your child in any preschool where there is program capacity.
