Ms. Nicole Pennell
Hello. My name is Ms. Pennell. This is my 16th year teaching at Palmer Lake Elementary and my 21st year in education. My experience has included working in 1st grade, 3rd grade, reading interventionist, and as a special education teacher for grades K-5. I am excited this year about continuing the adventure of working as a 3rd-grade teacher. My desire is to equip students to be problem solvers with the strategies and skills necessary to persevere as they learn in this next school year.
Why do I teach? I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 1st grade. I loved being in school and I loved the school year. During my school years, I was very active in clubs, activities, and sports. I never lost the desire to become a teacher as I went through high school. In college, I obtained a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a dual certificate in special education at the University of Delaware. After my 3rd year of teaching, I pursued a Master's Degree in Teaching from Grand Canyon University. Over the past years, I have been trained in multi-sensory reading instructional strategies and numerous programs that have helped equip me to teach literacy skills to all students. I take opportunities to teach children in and out of the school setting. I enjoy getting to know who the students are, how they learn and how to help them get where they need to be academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe teaching takes a group effort. I want parents to know that, as a teacher, I care what parents have to say about how their children learn, behave, etc. I want to come alongside parents as support as they raise their children.
I truly care about making children feel safe and secure. It is important to me that students learn to challenge themselves to be their best, whether it comes easy or hard. I teach because I care about the next generation and I enjoy being a part of their development of who they are created to be in this world.
