  • Galloping Horse Our goal is to provide special needs students with the opportunity to participate in school and community recreational and fitness activities regardless of their skill level, accomplished through the instruction, support, and use of adaptive equipment for successful experiences. This encourages individual independence and leads to appropriate active and healthy lifestyles.

  • Adopt Adapted PE

    You can adopt Adapted PE through our district-wide Adopt D38 program. 100% of your donation will go directly to the Adapted Physical Education Program with Dena Sikole, and is 100% tax deductible. The money will be used for various life skill activities/therapies; you can also designate the activity in the notes section. To adopt Adapted PE, use this Adapted PE Adoption Form.

Dena Sikole

Adapted Physical Education Teacher

Dena Sikole is a native of Colorado Springs. She attended the University of South Carolina on an athletic scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education K-12 in 1987. Following graduation, Dena returned to her home state to begin teaching at the Myron Stratton Home, a residential treatment center. She worked there for six years as the Adapted Physical Education Teacher. For the next 12 years, Dena worked for Pikes Peak Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) serving special needs children from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, in multiple school districts.
In 2003-04, Dena joined the Lewis-Palmer School District as a fulltime Adapted Physical Education Teacher. In 2007, she obtained her Master’s degree in Technology in Education from Leslie University.
“Community Recreational Activities is an important part of our work with special needs students,” said Dena. “It gives them the chance to meaningfully participate in activities such as bowling, swimming, gymnastics, and horseback riding in a community setting, while increasing their sense of independence and self-esteem. These experiences promote an active lifestyle that often extends beyond their school years, enhancing their health and daily activities.”
