LPHS Remote Learning

  • Please understand that this information may change; we are updating these pages frequently as we refine plans and make adjustments.

Lewis-Palmer High School launched Remote Learning for our students on March 31, 2020. While Remote Learning will look a little different for each classroom, teacher, and content area, our teachers will be using Canvas, Google Classroom, and another curriculum tools and delivery systems to provide learning activities and to communicate with students. Students are encouraged to communicate with teachers via email and other methods that the teacher indicates. Teachers may also use tools such as Google Meet to hold synchronous sessions with students during their regularly scheduled class time; these sessions will allow for a virtual classroom environment in which students can connect directly with the teacher and with other students.

    Teacher Planning Days

Each Monday is reserved for teacher planning and collaboration time. This is important time for teachers to ensure the week's learning activities are clear, accessible, and aligned to our essential learnings.

    Daily Routines, Participation, & Attendance

Remote Learning days are designed to provide connections a continuity of instruction. Every scheduled school day of Remote Learning (Tuesday - Friday), teachers will post activities/assignments for the classes that are scheduled to meet that day. Teachers may also use tools such as Google Meet to hold synchronous sessions with students during their regularly scheduled class time; these sessions will allow for a virtual classroom environment in which students can connect directly with the teacher and with other students.

Teachers will take attendance in Infinite Campus each Friday by 3:00pm. Students will be considered present for class if they have connected with the teacher in some way that week, such as submitting an assignment, logging into the Learning Management System and reviewing activities, participating in a live meeting or class discussion, or otherwise interacting with the curriculum in some manner that is evident to the teacher. It is a continued expectation that students are engaging in each class each day it is scheduled.

    Student Expectations

The goal of Remote Learning is to provide instruction to promote student learning; it does not mean spending 7 hours in front of a screen or doing work each day. Although Remote Learning is new from many of us, we will work together to find a healthy school/life balance and ensure students continue to learn and grow. Students should spend at least 1 hour per week on class work for each class. These time designations are minimums, and students should plan on more time for courses such as AP classes.

    Students should:

    1. Log into Canvas/Google Classroom/Other Platform daily and access that day’s scheduled courses. Activities for each class will be posted no later than 7:30am on the day the class meets. Reserve normal class times for the class in their schedule; teachers may be asking students to join a live class session during that class time.
    2. Check their school email account several times per day for updates and information from teachers.
    3. Watch / read the lesson / participate in any real time instruction.
    4. Complete the assignments / assessments.
    5. Check teacher feedback.

It is the expectation that students participate in their learning and reach out for help when needed. All students are encouraged to contact their teacher if they are having trouble understanding content or participating online. Teachers will work with each student to develop achievable solutions.

    Grades & Assessments

All families: Please read the Secondary Menu of Options which explains the process moving forward with regards to grading practices and processes. The options are customized to seniors and underclassmen. Please read the options available to your son/daughter and reach out to grade level administrators or counselors if you have questions.

For the Class of 2020: We have released this Menu of Options Selection Form that will inform us of which option students are considering.

Seniors, we ask that you please complete this form (linked above) as soon as possible.
    • We know these decisions require careful consideration, so make sure to read and discuss the Secondary Menu of Options guide with your family
    • After you submit the form, our senior counselor and administrative team will reach out to you and your parents to discuss and confirm which option you choose and/or to help inform your decision by talking through your individual circumstances and plans.

    Teacher Communication

Teachers will clearly communicate the best way to stay in touch. They will be available between 7:40a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for student and parent questions and to discuss any concerns. Teachers will also respond to emails within 24 hours, excluding weekends.

    Meet with a Counselor

Being away from friends and teachers can be difficult. LPHS Student Services is still available to help students with the following:

    • Transcripts and academic records

    • College planning and applications
    • Social and emotional support
    • PPCC Career Start & Concurrent enrollment
    • 504 accommodations and goals
    • Monitoring academic progress

Our counselors, school psychologist, and school social worker are available during office hours for virtual meetings. They may also need to meet or check in with an individual student, so you may receive a virtual pass in your Lewis-Palmer email.

Complete this form to reach out to a counselor. You'll need to be signed into your LPHS Google account to access the form. Then check your Lewis-Palmer email for a response or a meeting time and link to the meeting.
